My thoughts on her first video back from her travel break!
“This is your best video yet, Kate! You have given me a lot to think about when it comes to risk aversion and transactional relationships. I love how you pointed out how risk makes us grow, because unless we learn to stretch ourselves out of our comfort zones, we simply stagnate. We need to yearn and fantasize to be able to ascend to a better version of ourselves. Also, I have noticed how situation-ships are becoming especially common. You’re right that romance has taken a backseat to satisfying certain financial and practical needs. Worse yet, I’d add that hookups as a sort of bonus activity. It’s sad L
How much is tech to blame, though? I think it has simply exacerbated an innate human desire to curate, overthink, and attempt to control everything within our reach to give us a sense of agency, even if they are things that ultimately don’t matter. As you said in the video, we can easily train ourselves to not simply jump to the phone whenever we need something answered. Take a minute to use our imaginations and challenge our memories to give us more deep thought about the world and how we see ourselves in it, as well as show up in it to others.
As for becoming more anxious, detached, and indecisive, I definitely saw this in myself in recent years, until I recognized that life wasn’t much fun anymore and I needed to really step back and prioritize a few core values to build my life around.
Like you said, I too was archiving my life rather than living it day by day. Intentionally curating a version of life for the internet has become a norm of like to see reversed into something much more isolated. I wouldn’t say that smart phones have actually made life easier, they just give us an easy escape.
I love everything you said in this video and am so thrilled to see your personality truly begin to shine through in your work! You are amazing, Kate!”
Cheers!
