The Odd Pair (Poetry)

woman wearing white high top shoes

“The Odd Pair” is a poem that I wrote for a communications course called Oral Interpretations in my junior year of college.

You see them everyday outside
An odd pair wandering aimlessly
Or are they meandering purposefully?
The closeness true friendship provides
You can hear one in the other confide
So long they’ve known each other, so easily
They can feel what the others feeling
There is nothing either of them can hide

It may seem all they ever do is play
They heart the smell of fast food
There’s always a joke to lighten the mood
But one thing is always the same
Sometimes when a dumb mistake is made
One of them always begins to brood
The other works tirelessly to bring up the mood
One knows somehow all will be okay

The other just seems to wander through each day
No matter what it always falls the same way
Nothing for him is ever quite enough
He has to be perfect, no mediocre stuff
He knows by the other he is always wanted
To keep company whenever it is needed
One can have a million friends and stuff
But in down times, a best friend is enough
